Description: After four years as the ship's engineer, Rayna Chargin had seen a wide variety of beings book passage on Layland's Refuge, a small private starship that often carried paying passengers and their cargo between the stars. Rayna instinctively knew the latest fare would be a problem. From the beginning the furtive human had been overly protective of the sealed containers he brought with him. He refused to place the cases in the sealed cargo hold, insisting that they be kept in his cabin.
Rayna didn't know what had happened, but something living had been in the containers and had gotten out. The passenger had been the first to die in a wholly gruesome manner, his organs spattered over his cabin walls. But he wasn't the last. In the few days since, three of Rayna's crewmates and friends had been killed, including the skipper. Rayna has armed herself with a flamer and is hunting the creatures that seem to be multiplying with each death. She wears a respirator to filter the noxious fumes of the burning critters as she continues on her task of seeking survival and revenge
