Description: Here is the original game in the classic Ace of Aces series of pictorial air combat. This set of game books was an innovative approach to aerial combat games. This is the first edition published by Gameshop Inc. Later editions were produced by Nova Games. I purchased this at GenCon when it first came out and it was one of the most sought after games at the convention that year.
Two players face off in classic World War 1 dogfights. Each uses his aircraft's pictorial game book to try to maneuver into a kill position on his opponent's airplane.
This is the true first printing by Gameshop. There is no "PAT. PEND." on the reverse side of the title page. On page 185 of both books, the page has been incorrectly printed with the corresponding page from the opponent's book (in the Allies book it shows the page from the German player book rather than from the Allies). The shooting pages reflect the original somewhat weak bullet and gunfire graphics. Please look carefully at the pictures.
This edition comes complete with:
- Two game books (German and Allies), each 6 x 4-1/2 inches with 221 black and white line art illustrations showing the pilot's view from the cockpit seat
- A set of four two-sided 8-1/2 x 6 inch sheets containing gameplay charts and errata. Stapled together.
- One 8-1/2 x 6 inch cover sheet
No slipcase came with this early edition. Copyright 1980 Gameshop Inc.
Condition: Lightly used. Light wear to books and game sheets. The pages are clean and tight. Slight curling on game sheets and cover sheet. Overall in excellent condition. Please refer to the pictures for details.
